The actor who plays Jim McDonald used Instagram to share the disappointing news with their devoted fans.

Coronation Street legend Charlie Lawson, who portrayed Jim McDonald on the long-running ITV soap for 11 years, has disappointed fans with his latest news. The 66-year-old actor, whose character is the father of Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson), was scheduled to appear in a series of shows titled An Evening With Charlie Lawson. Unfortunately for ticket holders, he has announced that his upcoming Scottish dates have been cancelled.

Citing “unforeseen circumstances,” Charlie shared the update with his 25.7K Instagram followers. He wrote: “Listen, due to unforeseen circumstances—and that’s unforeseen circumstances in the plural—we have to either pull or postpone the Evening with Charlie Lawson tour next month, in December. There are a myriad of reasons, which I won’t bore you with. But anyway, unforeseen circumstances, etc., etc.”

“Nobody feels worse than I do,” he went on. “But, as often happens, you make an investment, you launch, and things don’t go according to plan.

“So unfortunately, to all you lovely people in Scotland, I won’t be seeing you in December. However, we’ll be taking a radical rethink in the new year, and hopefully An Evening with Charlie Lawson will be back.”

He closed the video with another apology, adding: “In the meantime, cheerio, and I’m really sorry, everyone.” The actor had been scheduled to perform 10 shows across Scotland, starting in Dundee on December 8. Regular tickets were priced at £25, with a meet-and-greet option available for £38.75.

Since leaving the soap, Charlie has faced difficulties. In an open interview in January, he spoke about his financial struggles, revealing that the rising energy bills had taken a serious toll and that he couldn’t even afford to heat his home.

The situation worsened when his wife, Debbie, had to close her Cheshire farm shop, plunging them into a legal struggle over debts approaching £50,000.

In August, Charlie revealed he was now working part-time at a coffee van. On August 16, he posted a video to X, captioned: “Bridge 19 Cafe, Macclesfield Canal, helping my good friend Lisa. Pop by Saturday and Sunday, 9am to 2pm.”

In the video, he said: “I’m here sometimes, cooking for you, so you can grab a selfie and have a bit of fun as well.”
