The competition is intensifying, with last weekend seeing Emmerdale star Lewis Cope achieve the series’ first perfect 40.
However, it also marked the end of the journey for Ellie Goldstein and her professional partner, Vito Coppola. Despite earning a score of 27, they faced the dance-off against Balvinder Sopal and Julian Caillon. Ultimately, the judges opted to save the EastEnders star, ending Ellie’s time on the show.
The 23-year-old spoke warmly about her experience, praising Vito, whom she affectionately describes as her “big brother.”
With another celebrity set to leave this weekend, the leaderboard has been reshuffled as the stars prepare to impress the judges once again, according to Wales Online.
During the show, Balvinder became visibly emotional as she opened up about a devastating loss last year when her mother passed away.
Ahead of her performance, the EastEnders star was moved to tears while recalling cherished moments with her late mother.
This week, the pair performed a commercial Punjabi Bhangra for their Couple’s Choice, with Balvinder sharing that her mother’s home was always full of life on Saturdays.
She reflected: “Last year was incredibly difficult for us. Losing my mum felt — and still feels — like losing a part of myself.
“My mum and I had an amazing relationship. One of my favourite things was coming home from work, sitting down with a cup of tea, wrapped in a blanket with her — just feeling warm together.”
The BBC star paused to compose herself as she became emotional talking about her mother.
She continued: “I had turned down every opportunity that came my way, but then Strictly came along and I thought, yes, I’m going to do this. This is my ‘yes’ year — I want to do it to be seen, because that’s what my mum would have wanted.”
In another segment, viewers saw Balvinder speaking with her sister and professional partner, where it was revealed that their mum had once been interviewed by Balvinder for BBC Radio Kent.
As the clip played, audiences were given the chance to hear Balvinder’s mother’s voice.
She said: “Always give it your all, and when you do, you’ll achieve a good outcome. Stay positive, and one day, you will definitely succeed.”
The actress shared that appearing on Strictly is a dream come true, despite the emotional highs and lows. Balvinder added: “I believe my mum would be so proud and dancing along wherever she is, watching over me.”
In the end, Balvinder earned a score of 34 for their performance, her highest on the show so far.
