Strictly Come Dancing judge Anton Du Beke was caught off guard during Saturday’s live BBC One broadcast (October 11), not realizing the cameras were rolling.
Week three of the competition saw 13 celebrities take to the dance floor, following The Apprentice star Thomas Skinner’s exit from the show last Saturday (October 4) alongside his professional partner Amy Dowden.
Soap star Stefan Dennis had to withdraw from this week’s live show due to illness, leading to fewer performances than expected.
After delivering their Lion King-inspired routine to “I Always Wanted a Brother” from the film Mufasa, Gladiators champion Harry Aikines-Aryeetey and his dance partner Karen Hauer spoke with presenter Claudia Winkleman in the studio about their performance.
When the cameras returned to the judging panel for their critiques, co-presenter Tess Daly had to alert Anton Du Beke that the show was live, as he continued chatting, seemingly unaware he was on air, according to Wales Online.
The exact details of Anton’s conversation with Tess remain unclear, though viewers caught him saying: “Is that too much? I can’t help myself.”
Tess quickly intervened, placing her hand on Anton and saying, “We’re on,” while pointing toward the camera.
“Sorry,” Anton responded, spinning around to face the lens, as both hosts broke into laughter.
“We were just chatting,” Anton admitted as Tess continued smiling while introducing Lewis Cope. Strictly fans were quick to notice the slip-up, with one tweeting: “Oh Anton #strictly #StrictlyComeDancing” alongside a crying emoji.
Another joked: “‘Poppy why are you an Anton fan?’ Here’s your answer x #strictly.”
A third added: “Anton’s mouth scares me #Strictly.”
Saturday night featured intense competition on the dance floor, with former Emmerdale actor Lewis and his partner Katya topping the leaderboard with 37 points following their electrifying Paso Doble.
Close behind were Amber and Nikita with 35 points, while Harry and Karen claimed third place.
It was a tough night for Ross and Jowita, who ended up at the bottom after their Thunderbirds-themed Paso Doble earned just 19 points from the judges.
